Crash Diets and Good Habits - Another Seth Godin production

Seth's Blog: Crash diets and good habits

I am a fan of Seth Godin and today he had a great blog that I had to share. In my line of business, I struggle with people of many sizes, shapes, personalities, emotions, etc, but most of the time, they all want the same thing. They want to look a certain way, and they want it now. Then they tell me all the things they have tried. I've cut carbs. I have eliminated sugar. I've had water and lemons for 2 weeks. I have worked out three times a day. I've  eaten nothing but vegetables for a week. Sigh.

All of these things will get you some sort of a result because most of these will send your body into shock and survival mode, but none of these develop the proper habits you need to maintain the outcome. That is IF you receive the outcome you want. You can always do things to 'lose weight' but being healthy and developing yourself physically and long term takes time, proper nutrition and a physical lifestyle.

I like how Seth associates this with all aspects of life. This is the same in your business, in your relationships, your daily living.  There are quick fixes, and then, there are proper foundations that develop long term results.

Don't be afraid of making changes or sacrifices over the course to better yourself for a lifetime. Let's stop looking for that miracle pill.

9 Weeks out - Lesson on food prep

Ok so first off, I cannot believe we are already down to 9 weeks. SINGLE DIGIT countdown!!! The year has been going by so quickly in a general sense, let alone for this competition. With the onset of the new school year, business is picking up with Phoenyx so it is critical that I am prepared on all fronts. Food, scheduling, my clients, my classes, etc.  I do not have the luxury of waiting for things to 'fall in place' or come together. My schedule has to be down chiseled into my planner, down to the minutes.

Making sure I eat properly and what I eat is especially important of course, so food prep day is key. I prep most of my food for the week in one day, and pack it all away in portioned bags or containers. I have found for me personally, portion control is my downfall. It certainly isn't beneficial to eat healthier food if you eat twice as much. : )

What I have also learned about myself is that I will sit at my desk for hours at a time if allowed, so when I am finally able to eat, it needs to be ready already, otherwise, I am tempted to make a bad decision.  SO this week, on the menu we have grilled chicken, steamed cod, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, collard greens, spaghetti squash, sweet potato, and kale chips, nuts and homemade protein bars. WHEW!

Check out the damage......

Portioned snacks. Homemade kale chips, cashews, and homemade protein squares.

Love my broccoli.

Everything packed away in the fridge.

Can't forget my chicken!

Here we go... 12 weeks to Texas

I've recently started my 12 weeks of training for the WBFF Texas Championships. Some people may wonder why am I doing this show? Why I'd go through 12 weeks of intense training for a single moment on stage? Well, part of the motivation is being a role model to my team, the Elite Heat and to my clients to practice what I preach by not only talking about fitness and health but living it. I see people's transformations within the Phoenyx Fitness warrior bootcamps, and having them know that my heart is in it as much as theirs can only help push for their and my own best. I want to encourage people to go after whatever they set their hearts out to do. Whether it's working towards a fitness competition like myself or turning into an urban athlete and completing a Spartan run or working on kettlebell training or even just making bootcamp a weekly part of their lives to create a healthier lifestyle; whichever path they choose, I want to encourage it all.

When my pastor, Dr. Jerome E. McNeil, Jr., passed a few weeks ago it gave me a heightened awareness of time and how precious it is. He sadly passed right after giving a sermon at our church. The title of the sermon that Sunday was,
"I’m better than I used to be"
and it's something that I feel he always encouraged people to understand. We are never where we need to be. We are insatiable and imperfect, but if we strive every day to be better people we will always be better than we used to be. The only way we don't accomplish this, is if we don't try. Every day, I want to be better than I was before. Things don't have to remain the same unless you let them. Religious preferences aside, I loved him because I would leave a better person just by being in his presence. I want to pass that along to anyone I meet. I want everyone to meet me, and somehow become a better person because of it. All this makes me want to push and not waste any moments. So, getting up on stage even for a moment will make all the weeks of dedication and training worth it. Plus, it will be nice to go back to support my hometown and show my friends that what I do is what I love.

So here starts the countdown to Dallas WBFF Texas Championships....
